This quilt is a small tribute to our native Northwestern big leaf maples (Acer macrophyllum), some of the most impressive cold-climate deciduous trees. In the more humid parts of its range, as in the Olympic National Park, its bark is often covered thickly with epiphytic moss and fern species.
